A grocery list sorted by aisle at Coles and Woolworths

Updated

Sort the list into sections, then order the sections the way you walk through your store. Tickalot groups the items for you. It then sorts them by the aisle numbers you enter once for your Coles, Woolworths or any other shop.

Sections to start with

Until Tickalot knows your store, it uses the order below. A paper list works fine with it too:

Section Examples
Fruit and veg bananas, apples, potatoes, onions, salad
Bakery bread, croissants, wraps
Dairy and eggs milk, butter, cheese, yoghurt, eggs
Meat chicken breast, mince, sausages
Fish salmon, prawns
Pantry pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes, oil, coffee
Snacks chips, biscuits, chocolate
Drinks water, juice, soft drinks
Frozen frozen peas, ice cream
Household toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, bin bags
Personal care shampoo, toothpaste
Baby nappies, wipes
Pets cat food, dog food

Your own store has a different layout, which is why the next step exists.

Use the aisles of your store

  1. Add the store. Open "Stores and aisles" in Settings and search, for example "Coles Bondi". The search runs on OpenStreetMap and lists each shop with its street.
  2. Enter the aisles. Write 5 beside Dairy and eggs, 1 beside Bakery, and so on. Sections without a number come after the numbered ones.
  3. Choose the store on a list. The list regroups into "Aisle 1 · Bakery", "Aisle 5 · Dairy and eggs". Aisle 2 sorts ahead of aisle 10, and 12B after 12.

Aisles from other shoppers

The aisles you enter for a shop found on the map are shared. The next person to pick that Coles gets them filled in, and their aisles reach you. A shop you add by hand keeps its aisles on your phone.

Before any aisles are entered

Shop with the list as it is. Tickalot learns the order in which you tick sections at that store. Tick fruit, then milk, then bread, and the list follows that order next time.

The Android app can also read a photo of an aisle sign. The phone sees "5" and "Milk, Cheese" and stores aisle 5 for Dairy and eggs.

Why you enter the aisles

Coles and Woolworths give Tickalot no aisle data. The people who shop at a store therefore type its aisles once, or let their ticks teach the app the order.
