A grocery list with Coles and Woolworths prices
Updated
Each item on a Tickalot shopping list shows its Coles and Woolworths price underneath. The line compares the price per litre or per kilo and colours the cheaper shop green. You skip searching each shop's site by hand.
The price line
For milk, the line might read:
Coles $1.65/L ยท Woolworths $1.70/L
Pack sizes differ, so the line compares the price of the same amount. If the two packs use different units, it compares the shelf prices.
The products behind the prices
Tap an item while you edit the list. "Prices online" lists the product each shop matched, with its price and its unit price. Tap a product to open it on the shop's site and check it is the one you buy.
Better matches
The app searches each shop by the item's name, and a precise name finds a closer product.
- "Milk" finds some milk, perhaps not yours.
- "Full cream milk 2L" finds exactly that milk.
- A brand such as "Tim Tams" finds that brand.
Prices work for English names. An item written in Russian shows no price.
How fresh the prices are
- Once a day the app holds each price for a day, then asks again when the list opens.
- Offline the last day's prices stay on screen.
- After a tick the price line disappears, since the item is in the cart.
Coles prices arrive slowly
A few searches in, the Coles site starts a bot check. The app then stops asking Coles for an hour. On a long list the Coles prices fill in over a few days, while the Woolworths prices come straight away.
The browser version shows Woolworths prices only, because the Coles site blocks a web page from reading it. Aldi blocks these searches, so Aldi has no prices.
